Boy George, who grew up in Eltham, South London, remembered having to go to church every Sunday until one day his brother pulled his trousers down during the service. ‘We never went back again,’ George recalled. ‘I was very pleased about that.’

Kurt Smith said he was top of the class at his primary school even though it was a struggle. ‘I was doing it for my parents.
